Ignacio Barrio is an exemplary leader in the renewables space, combining his enthusiasm for building a more sustainable world with a wealth of global experience in major programme delivery.
With more than 20 years’ experience in the energy, oil and gas industries, Ignacio has delivered approximately 2GW of solar renewables during his career in Europe, Canada, the Middle East and South America.
Previous companies include Poyry, Tecnicas Reunidas and BP, for whom he established a solar business in Italy. He has also serviced clients including Ienova, Allianz, Saudi Aramco and NWRl, specialising in programme delivery, engineering, procurement, construction, mergers and acquisitions.
For Enzen, Ignacio has spearheaded the development of renewable solutions in the Caribbean, overseeing the creation of microgrids in Suriname and Grenada which are designed to improve quality of life and accelerate the countries’ transition to a low-carbon economy.
Delivering outstanding customer satisfaction is what motivates Ignacio in the workplace. As a professional, he believes in achieving sustained excellence through best-in-class solutions and expert programme management. This entails creating the right blend of experience and technical skills, plus an unswerving focus on customers’ needs to ensure all outcomes are fit-for-purpose and deliver value.
He is passionate about combining new technologies and processes to realise ambitious renewable projects in places where sustainable energy sources are sorely needed.
Originally a specialist in naval and ocean engineering, Ignacio graduated from the Naval Technical School of Engineers at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He also has an Executive MBA from the city’s IE Business School.
Ignacio is married and has two children. His hobbies include travelling, clay pigeon shooting and padel tennis.
