An industry thought leader and influencer specialising in the transition to smart energy and water systems, Ian McLeod has more than 30 years’ experience in driving safety, performance and value across power grids. Through his knowledge and insights, Ian is enabling our customers to meet the challenges of digitalisation and the energy transition through deep domain knowledge and innovative proprietary tools.
Ian has added enormously to Enzen’s domain expertise in creating smart digital new age utilities. He plays a key role in Enzen’s Virtual Tas project, a first-of-a-kind innovation, based on Enzen's Digital Reality Platform. The project is creating a 4D digital twin of Tasmania’s entire above-ground infrastructure every year for ten years. He has also been a significant contributor to our other smart and digital utility projects such as creating a digital twin of New South Wales.
Previously as CEO for Australian utility Ergon Energy, Ian delivered record work programmes while improving risk, safety, network performance, productivity, customer service and pricing outcomes. Under his leadership, Ergon also won the Climate Alliance Business Innovator of the Year award for its response to climate change.
Ian’s specialist areas include energy innovation and industry, market and network transformation, plus stakeholder engagement, microgrids and digital asset management solutions, winning the 2015 Edison Electric Institute International Innovation Award for the latter.
He is passionate about making a positive contribution to big issues such as net zero emission targets, climate change adaptation, disaster response, electrification, energy affordability and security and water scarcity.
As a former Deputy Chairman of the Energy Supply Association of Australia, Director of Energy Networks Australia and Chairman of Queensland Futures Institute Energy Committee, Ian has been instrumental in shaping the direction of Australia’s energy industry.
An alumnus of Harvard Business School, Ian is a non-executive board director for Virtual Tas and Enzen group company and IoT specialist NNNCo. He was also a non-executive board director for Australian utilities Powercor, Citipower and South Australian Power Networks, and is currently a Global Ambassador for the Edison Electric Institute.
He is married with three adult children, has a grandchild and a Labrador. He enjoys travel and supporting his children in their chosen sports.
