Key facts
- 4,500 miles of overhead lines
- 8 year regulatory period
- 1 single version of the truth
Customer Challenge
Following tough new cost and efficiency challenges being set by the industry regulator, an electricity transmission operator launched a series of new initiatives to ensure it was in good shape to meet them. The customer owns nationwide electricity transmission networks and as such is responsible for nearly 4,500 miles of overhead lines.
Our Solution
To help the customer manage the complex reporting of regulatory performance, Enzen provided a solution that moved baselines, annual business plans and regulatory submission schedules into an assured, controlled data environment.
A financial model was developed and an internal staging environment created to allow data to be easily loaded into the customer's Oracle Business Intelligence tools. Modelling for these ‘snapshots’ of asset costs and volumes was flexible enough to reflect the ongoing changes to reporting required by the regulator.
Outcomes delivered
Thanks to Enzen’s work, the customer was able to present a single version of the truth through its business intelligence tools. This enabled the customer to review and challenge its plans and measure performance accurately against regulatory targets.
Equally, the data meant the customer could assess the impact of changes on capital programme objectives and project plans, quantifying the effects in terms of cost and volume and scheduling time for corrective action.
Operationally, Enzen’s solution helped reduced the amount of time needed to gather information and review and report on progress, therefore allowing planning teams to focus on action rather than analysis. What was previously undertaken using multiple spreadsheets from multiple stakeholders could now be carried out by fewer people quickly and with less errors.
